Crafy-type update
Evidently beading flowers is like riding a bike. There was half a second of me going "Urrrrr..." and then it was like my fingers started working on their own and "Oh, right, that's how it's done!"
I've decided to make a peacock inspired flower for a new hair ornament so I've got all my blue, and green, and purple, and brown beads around me trying to figure out which shades will work best. I have a feeling I'm going to drive myself crazy trying to figure out the proportions of each color and where they should end up on the petal. At the very least I know I'm going to waste a lot of wire.
