saone: (canwekeepit?)
Mom had to go into Richmond yesterday. I decided to tag along and since both of us were going, and the guilt is strong in her, we took Bear too.

Cut to driving back home a little after ten when mom suddenly makes a u-turn.

Me: Whuh?
Mom: There was a kitten.

So we turn around and find the little thing -- black with white paws, and yellow eyes, scrawny as hell -- mewing it's head off. Of course it doesn't want to come to us, and it takes mom, me, and a really nice guy in a truck to catch it. While we're doing this Bear is going nuts in the backseat.

Anyway, we catch it, and I wrap it up in a jacket, and here's the big mistake -- I end up holding it while mom drives. Yeah, my sweet, totally possessive little Angel-Bear doesn't like that one bit. So we're going down the highway and the 80+ lb. Lab mix decides to climb over the seat and get in my lap.

While I'm still holding the kitten.

Ow.

The kitten was not happy, I was not happy, and once Bear realized what kind of position she had put herself into, she wasn't happy either.

I've got an armful of hissing feline, a lap full of whining dog, and a mother who's laughing so hard she's swerving off the road.

Mom pulls over and we switch, she gets in the passenger and I get out to drive, but Bear gets out with me and refuses to get back in. I push/pull/lift Bear into the back seat. Somewhere in the middle of the pleading, the kitten falls asleep and stays that way until we get home where he proceeds to scarf down huge amounts of food and milk.

The two adult cats disappeared under the house. I think they've decided to room with the possum until the interloper has left.

Now we just need to find the little guy a new home, and somehow get back in the other animals' good graces. I'm thinking bribes of meat might end up being involved.
