From the Moscow Times - Blog service LiveJournal.com, which has been down for much of this week, admitted Wednesday that the problems were caused by hacker attacks, not technical malfunction...

An attack of this scale costs about $15,000 to organize, Gazeta.ru said.

It is the third such attack on LiveJournal, which is the main platform for political dissent in Russia, since March. Previous attacks targeted popular bloggers, including whistleblower Alexei Navalny, which led to speculation that pro-Kremlin groups might be involved.


That, right there, is why I'm sticking with LJ 'til the bitter end. LJ may have its various problems and issues, but what it boils down to is this blogging site helps promote and protect free speech in places where speaking your mind can put you at risk.

Thank you! I've been saying stuff like this on Twitter of the last few days when people have bitched about LJ being down. I even saw people blaming LJ for it...it annoys me so much!

Really, when I see stuff like this I'm happy I have a paid account because I WANT to support sites fighting for free speech. I will never leave LJ just because other pages don't get attacked, it's just stupid

I really wish LJ would send out an administrative post explaining everything. I really think that would cut down on at least some of those kinds of posts. But, yeah, that annoys me too.

I can't think of a better reason to stick around. Yeah Ima try crossposting and importing to DW mostly because I dont want to lose track of the stuff i wrote.
But I am disgusted as hell that this keeps working and the ONLY thing I can do to impact this attempt to circumvent free speech is to stay right here.

Yeah, I've got a DW account, and an Ao3 account that I'm using as backup (just in case), but LJ is my main internet home. :D
