One of the cats brought a mouse into the house (you'd think the incident with the squirrel and the other incident with the skink would have taught me to always check their mouths before I let them inside, but no).

I thought pets were supposed to lower your blood pressure.

Why do I think that dogs would be like "Yay! I help lower blood pressure! WhooHoo!" and cats would be like "Damn. Are you sure? Well, we'll just see about that."

You'd have to try and explain the concept of "blood pressure" to dogs first (probably simplify it a lot) while cats would understand and make minor changes to aggravate you even further.

Oh, I don't think it was a present for me. I think it was a present for her. "Hey, look at this new toy I found; it's interactive and everything... Hey, where'd it go?"

My little darlings don't like shoes (thank goodness), though one does enjoy putting his findings in the bathtub. I think he considers it to be a kind of giant terrarium. Before I learned to check first it made for some interesting showers.
