'The Avengers 2': Joss Whedon Officially Set For Sequel - "The Avengers 2" is happening with Joss Whedon...
In a twist, Whedon will also help Marvel and ABC develop a new television series that takes place within "The Avengers" universe.
A Whedon-developed, Avengers-universe television series?!

Date: 2012-08-08 09:06 am (UTC)I'm just like ...... Oh, thank GOD they're not going to fuck it all up! Marvel's not going to try to rest on their (Joss and the cast's) laurels or lowball paychecks, they're really going to go for it and there really IS a chance for it to be AWESOME!
AND this means it's tons more likely that ALL the cast will come back, even the ones not contractually obligated to do so (RDJ).
But right this second, I feel like I'm standing precariously at the top of Avengers' Tower looking down at a possible scary drop - there are at least 3 films between now and then that could totally change up these characters AND the Marvel movieverse. WE SHALL SEE if Marvel is up to the challenge of keeping serious quality control.
STEVE'N'BUCKY!!!!Winter Soldier just HAS to be amazing, IM3 is kinda a no-brainer (even if it sucks, it won't ruin my appreciation for the characters: plus- Don Cheadle!) and Ruffalo's Hulk has fantastic potential, but I'm still bitter about the lack of a Hawkeye/Black Widow movie."I don't want them shoehorned into someone else's story," she whined, sulking with fangirl entitlement. (you can tell I've been lurking through the epic posts over at
TV show: too soon to know if it's worth getting excited. Young Avengers?, SHIELD?, Two Guys, Two Girls and a cheesy diner in a bustling metropolis constantly terrorized by epic superhuman smackdowns? As the Bifrost Turns?
Speaking of IM3, I must rec this (http://archiveofourown.org/works/461384) bit of gen Tony/Rhodey BAMFS-bonding because I can just hear Don Cheadle and RDJ saying the lines and it makes me WANT the sequel(s) now. Thank heavens for the Bourne Distraction. ;D

Date: 2012-08-08 04:33 pm (UTC)I think it's so awesome how every single member of the cast became so protective about their characters (and their castmates' characters too). I think RDJ probably would have come back just because I really think he adores everyone involved (and, you know, the HUGE paycheck doesn't hurt either), but having Joss aboard will definitely help.

I'm thinking the endgame has already been mapped out (hopefully by Joss), and the other movies will most likely have to stick to the larger picture.
plus- Don Cheadle!
Don Cheadle!!! War Machine had better make a cameo in Avengers 2!
I'm still bitter about the lack of a Hawkeye/Black Widow movie.
I was upset for a bit - they're making a freakin' Ant-Man movie, but we can't get our super spies - but I kind of get it. Unless there are cameos, there wouldn't be a lot of 'super' in a super-hero movie. And with the possibility of more Bourne movies (staring Jeremy) and more MI movies (also, most likely, staring Jeremy) I could see Marvel not wanting to put out a spy movie, no matter how cool/awesome/OMGYESSSS it would be.
"I don't want them shoehorned into someone else's story,"
I would be really surprised if Black Widow at least isn't in CA2 because of her (comic) history with Bucky.
Honestly, at this point, I just want Clint and Natasha to show up somewhere, you know? And not in separate movies, so they can be all super scary/snarky bffs together. :D
Ooh, Clint and Bucky could bond over being brainwashed. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so.

I am cautiously optimistic. :D
My opinion about ABC has gone up and down over the years. Sometimes way down. Far, far, far down. Still a little bitter about how they treated The Unusuals, but whatever, I'm fine.
But I've been really impressed with Once Upon a Time. At first, I thought a show about fairy tale characters and Disney princesses, hello, Velveeta. But, for the most part, it's been really good, and every moment of cheese is set off by something pretty damn dark. Also, it's got the whole epic world-building thing down.
So, now there's a precedent for ABC not immediately canceling something different and cool, and especially with Joss, if not in the drivers seat, than at least manning the GPS, I am, as I said, cautiously optimistic. ;D
As for the show itself... Heroes For Hire. Or SHIELD. Or Heroes For Hire grudgingly working for SHIELD. Or anything that would be awesome and give me the possibility of Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
I must rec this bit of gen Tony/Rhodey BAMFS-bonding
Ahaaaaahahahahah! Yes!

Date: 2012-08-08 08:40 pm (UTC)This is no doubt true but it will make a heart breaking story all the more effective.
My god, look what he did in the last film (see icon), and now he is going to get his hands on BUCKY!
Also the icon is pretty awesome isn't it? I have had it forever and have now Idea where it even came from, I have dragged it everywhere for years.

Date: 2012-08-08 08:56 pm (UTC)Oh, you mean create the origin story for Vision?
Shhhh. No talking about any rivers in Egypt. ;P
Honestly, I've watched Joss' stuff since the very first ep of Buffy, so I should have been expecting it, but it still, ugh, got me right in the Captain America trading cards, you know.
However, as a long time comic fan, I know that death can be a strange and fleeting thing - for anyone other than poor Uncle Ben or maybe Thomas & Martha Wayne - soooooooo who knows! Plus, Coulson's been integrated into the regular comic universe now, and I chose to see that as a sign. Of something. Whatever.
la, la, la, la, la, la, la, can't hear you, la, la, la, la, la,

Date: 2012-08-08 08:59 pm (UTC)I didn't see a body so... not dead.
Also.
It used to be a saying that the only character in Marvel that stayed dead was Bucky and look how that worked out :D
Edited to Add.
I read, and loved Battle Scars. And I keep hoping they give us more!
