*****

For all the complaints Orlando had about the downsides that come with fame, being a star did have it's perks—like making people work on the night before Christmas.

Orlando flashed his biggest and brightest smile at the mirror reflection of the woman fiddling around behind him. "I really can't thank you enough, Suzi." He said for the third time since he slid into her chair.

The young man's charm was legendary, and quite effective. Suzi blushed, then cleared her throat. "Yeah, well, you just sign that box before you go, and we're all square." She said.

Orlando's grin faltered at the sight of the Ken as Legolas doll, still in its original packaging, propped up against Suzi's toolbox. She had said the doll was going to her eight-year-old daughter, but Orlando couldn't help but suspect it was going to find it's
way to Ebay. No matter. Even if it did end up on the net, Suzi was sacrificing part of her holiday to help him out, so Orli really couldn't complain.

"There." Suzi stood back to admire her handiwork. "All done. Those should last through the night as long as you don't... What am I saying, you know how to take care of those things better than anyone."

Orlando gently brushed back his hair. "Yeah, I do." He spun the chair around and gathered the startled make-up artist into a hug. "You're the best, sweetheart!"

"Oh, well, uh..." Suzi turned bright red. She broke his hold and thrust the doll box at him. "Could you put, To Samantha?"

Orli smiled. "I'd be delighted."

*****

Orlando eased his non-descript back sedan beside the equally non-descript silver sedan already in the driveway. Before getting out of the car he checked himself in the rearview mirror. He gently pulled the knit watchman's cap down a little further on his head and nodded. It was Showtime.

Instead of heading towards the front door, Orlando and the armful of gaily wrapped packages he had gotten from the backseat rounded the side of the small cottage and headed towards the back entrance. After a moment's fumbling, he produced a key and unlocked the door.

Orlando hurried to the living room where he deposited the presents under the Christmas tree. He shook out his arms and scowled at the two dozing canines who were sprawled out on a mess of blankets and pillows near the room's solitary, but overflowing, bookcase.

"Some watchdogs you are." He muttered. Two tails lazily thumped the floor.

"They know your car." Viggo poked his head out from the kitchen. He spied the additions under the tree. "I still wish you hadn't gone out on Christmas Eve. They could have waited."

Orlando shrugged out of his coat, but left his hat on.

Leaving Viggo alone on Christmas Eve was the one thing that had worried him about his scheme. For years this had been their day, a day to spend together, tucked away from the world in their little anonymous slice of heaven--that, if anyone ever went digging, was officially owned by Viggo's second cousin by marriage. Tomorrow would be the day for donning disguises and running around visiting family and friends. Today was supposed to be for them, and even though Orli knew Viggo would appreciate his special gift, he still couldn't help but feel a little twinge of guilt for leaving. He used that guilt, and let it show. "I'm sorry, luv,” he said. "I know the Hobbits would understand if they had to wait for their gifts, but I don't think I could stand the ribbing I'd get if they knew I'd forgotten about them. They already think my head's big enough as it is."

Viggo harrumphed and disappeared back into the kitchen.

Orlando smiled mischievously. "How long 'til dinner?" He asked, while giving both dogs a thorough head-scratching.

"Almost done." Came the answer. "Want to set the table?"

"Give me a minute." Orlando quickly made his way down the small hallway and into the bathroom. After closing the door firmly behind him he turned on the taps. Orlando leaned close to the mirror over the sink and gingerly pulled off his hat. He wet his fingers and pulled them through his hair, separating the curls.

Anticipation brought a flush to his cheeks and a sparkle to his eyes. After a few more minutes of primping he decided he looked damn good.

Viggo didn't stand a chance.

Orlando emerged from the bathroom and nonchalantly headed into the kitchen.

"Thought you'd fallen in." Viggo smirked from the stove as he flipped a piece of lightly breaded trout.

"Charming." Orli stuck his tongue out, and grabbed two dishes and assorted cutlery. The dining area was a small alcove adjacent to both the kitchen and the living room, and Sidi and Bridget were already waiting patiently by the table. "You'll get up for the prospect of food, but not to welcome your boy home, I see how it is." Orli said, rolling his eyes. He gave them each a pat on the head anyway.

Orlando went back into the kitchen and then returned to the table with a bowl of green beans and a bubbly, savory something in a casserole dish. "Everything looks amazing, Vig."

Viggo walked in with a plate full of fish in one hand, a bottle of wine tucked under his arm, and two glasses dangling from his fingers. Orlando quickly took some of his burden. "Not half as amazing as-” For the first time that night Viggo got a close look at his lover.

Orlando set the fish and glasses on the table and took hold of the wine before it could fall from Viggo's suddenly lax arms. "As what, luv?" He asked with practiced innocence, his big brown eyes gazing up through thick lashes.

Viggo, the famously outspoken and erudite wielder of words had been struck speechless. Slowly, he reached out and tucked a mess of curls behind Orlando's ear. Orlando's perfectly pointed ear.

"Do you like your present?" Orli asked softly.

"Present?" Viggo repeated dumbly.

He wrapped his arms around the older man's neck. His lithe body molded perfectly to its mate. "You've got your elf back."

"My..."

"For tonight." Orlando said, enjoying the stunned look on the older man's face. "Or, however long they stay on."

Viggo gently, reverently ran his fingers up the delicately molded gelatin. "My elf."

Orli smiled impishly. "You gonna make me a happy elf, Vig?"

Sidi's and Bridget's ears perked up at the growls and giggles that suddenly erupted from their masters. Both dogs were used to such sounds, and they did nothing but sit quietly as the already humping humans made their way out of the room. A muffled shout of "Oh, Vig!" coupled with the slamming of a door let them know it was safe to proceed. After all, Christmas dinner shouldn't go to waste.
