New York has no national monuments or icons, according to the Department of Homeland Security form obtained by ABC News. That was a key factor used to determine that New York City should have its anti-terror funds slashed by 40 percent--from $207.5 million in 2005 to $124.4 million in 2006.

"All I can tell you is if you look at their worksheets, and it says that New York City doesn't have any high visibility national icons ... I mean, I don't have to list the Brooklyn Bridge, the United Nations, Rockefeller Center, the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and the Stock Exchange," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in response to ABC News' questions.

The form ignored that New York City is the capital of the world financial markets and merely stated the city had four significant bank assets.

Okay, this is just... Do people at the DHS acutally look at what they put out? Can they read? Do they have brains in their tiny, little heads?

And, if things like the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building don't count as national icons, then what the hell does, Bob Jones University?!

Oh, now this just pisses me right the f@#K off! I live on Long Island, worked in Manhattan, & go there many times during the year (it's only a 30 minute car ride or a 25 minute train ride). Only a stupid-assed MORON would make such a statement as that - or some bureaucratic idiot! And, I agree with you that the DHS must not have bothered to look at what they put out before doing so! I can see saying no "national monuments" are within the boundaries of NYC or the 5 boroughs (it was decided that the Statue of Liberty belongs to New Jersey - can you believe it?), but no ICONS?!? Where should we start - oh yeah! Empire State Building, Ground Zero where so many lost their lives and eventually something will be erected upon it to memorialize that tragic day, Ellis Island, Broadway (guess their sorry asses have never seen a Broadway Play?), Times Square (hey - doesn't that ball drop from there every New Years Eve? and gets broadcast all over the universe???), St. Patrick's Cathedral, Museum of Natural History & Museum of Modern Art (just to name two of the many many many museums in NYC), Central Park (been to any free concerts there???), New York Stock Exchange (I shudder to think what would happen to this country if anything happened to the NYSE!), Radio City Music Hall (can you say Rockettes?), the Brooklyn Bridge, Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium (yeah yeah - there not in NYC, but in the 5 boroughs), the Verazzano Bridge (forever memorialized in Saturday Night Fever - go Johnny!) ... the list can go on & on. So, I say to the DHS ... stick your ICONS! I guess you wouldn't know one if it bit you on the butt! New York - it's a heluva town!

Yeah, that just about sums it up.

(it was decided that the Statue of Liberty belongs to New Jersey - can you believe it?),

O.o That's just... weird.

Broadway (guess their sorry asses have never seen a Broadway Play?)

They probably think it would turn them gay. That nasty, cultural stuff. And, who really needs museums? To paraphrase Steven Colbert, they're all fact, no heart. *rolls eyes and starts countdown to November elections*
